CrossFit first timer

Hello guys!
You may be a little confused,
but it's really me...
Workout-Once-In-A-Blue-Moon-Sam.
I've been running everyday/ every other day.
I just realized what a busy summer/fall running schedule I have.

The third weekend of August will be spent road tripping up to Providence, RI for a half-mary with my cousins and mother-in-law. Which is bitter sweet that SHE can't come, but I'm still really really excited to see new sites!!

Fourth weekend of August is the Happiest 5k on the Planet

And in 13(ish) short weeks, I will be running the First Annual RW Half with my friend.

Tonight I went to CROSSFIT for the first time.
I've been scared and intimidated yet surprisingly intrigued ever since I heard about CrossFit.
It's an empty warehouse/garage 'gym' with sledgehammers, tractor trailer tires, heavy medal music and ropes hanging from the ceiling. I wasn't sure what to expect.

Everything I've heard from it sounded tough,
rope climbs, 100 burpees, straight pull-ups, hand stand push-ups, box jumps- etc.
what?? where is the girly elliptical? or give me some colorful rubber 10lb dumbbells, i'll bicep curl those all day. No tanning beds? No protein shake bars? No babysitting?

GAMETIME:
The WOD was
Mobility: Shoulders WOD: 5 to 7 Rounds of… 3 Weighted Pull-Ups, 45/15lbs 5 Strict Pull-ups 7 Kipping Pull-ups Rest 90 seconds Cash-Out: 5 Rounds for time of… 20 yard shuttle run rest 15 seconds

Our trainer was super welcoming, and she made sure we had help with everything we did.
I felt really comfortable talking to her, and expressing my concerns
(about my fear of/ hate of Pull Ups, not the diapers)
Anyway, I went ahead and bought a monthly membership,
I CAN NOT wait until the next WOD. (workout of the day)
I can tell I'm going to be mega sore tomorrow,
but that's the best!

Every single exercise has 'modifications' so today when it was Pull Up time we were allowed to use bands to help assist. I mean, I still struggled, but I was able to do it!
WOOT WOOT!

The PRINCESS packed her bag and hung out at her bff's house....

Okay, my arms are heavy already.
Going to stretch.
Have a good night!!!

Thanks GM for the inspiration,
Thanks Gail for the company,
Thanks Nicole for the peace of mind <3

when i wasn't 19 anymore

Hello!

I found this leaf on my deck this morning...
We're only a month-ish into summer right?
It didn't turn fall and I forgot right?
right?

Saturday morning started with some ATV rides in my neighborhood,
peanut butter & banana toast & COFFEE <3

This entire week a group of our friends have been renting 2 houses at the Jersey Shore.
So we decided to pay them a visit, and borrow a room for the night!

Little Sophia in the bottom left.
The sweetest and QUIETEST baby EVER!

Well, our night quickly turned into morning,
Ryan & I headed to bed with an all too early wake up call.
We were gas-stationed, coffee'd & on the highway by 5:16AM.
It was painful. It hurt. I felt sick all day.
Cafe PATRON probably didn't help.
I've come to the brutal realization,
I'm getting OLD.
I definitely can't hang like my bad self used to.
In my teens When I was 21, it was boozefest every weekend.
Their was no "I feel like I got hit by a bus" "I have heartburn"
"ouch, my back hurts from passing out on the floor"
I mean, I'm glad we went,
it was spur of the moment,
we had fun,
and we got our asses handed to us by the nineteen year olds OF LEGAL DRINKING AGE friends.

Look & Feel like SH*T

Needless to say Ryan and I had a QUIET and EARLY night in.
We had dinner delivered to us,
because of that whole, 'run over by a truck' feel.
Grilled chicken salad for me, with a slice of spicy chicken pizza.

Ryan had a cheesesteak.
It was a glorious night at home.
We watched 21 Jump Street.
Umm, I laughed so hard.
I highly recommend it!!!!

But I'd pretty much watch anything with
Channing Tatum in it:

Channing Tatum

Like I said,
Go watch 21 Jump Street.

Heading out for a few miles,
enjoy the rest of your weekend!

tramps & jorts

Yes, I take pictures of my HUSBAND tormenting my 18 month old daughter...
They play. They play HARD.  Ball to the Face hard.
Grab your feet while you're running away from me on the trampoline hard.
If one of them needs a time out, it's not the baby.

I posted this on TWITTER earlier,
But, am I in the wrong?
Jorts (jean shorts) and a long sleeve shirt?
I mean, I was only going to Home Depot...

Anyway, today was a really nice day,
way better than yesterday.
Naturally I am a morning person, and I wake up pretty early for someone without a 9-5 job.
Coffee was a-brewing by 5:15am.
And let me tell you, I savored that 45 minutes of "ME" time, in silence. Just   c a l m   and quiet.
Any other stay at home moms with me?

Later on I spent time with the dude I married & the kid who calls me momma....
We worked on some things around the house:

Replaced our door knob

and bought a new lamp.  It's from Home Depot, but I think it has a PotteryBarn-esque feel.

Can't forget that I suffered from the ABSOLUTE HOTTEST / SWEATIEST / GLORIOUS 3 mile run ever.
It was extremely humid, yet felt so good to just RUN.

For dinner I met up with Gail & GMRuns for some Moe's.
I had A VEGGIE BURRITO that didnt even survive a chance at a picture.

Moe's aftermath.

That's what is new with me.
What are you guys up to?

Did you used to do this as a kid?
Look how short my hair is.

ramblings!

Good Wednesday morning to my favorite blog reader s

Yesterday I finally had my internet company come out to replace our modem,
so it's all good!
Feel free to report back here on the daily!

This past (or is it passed?) weekend was BIRTHDAY weekend for my Mother - in - Law,
and also a surprise little shindig for my Father - in- Law...

Lots of running around doing preparations for the party!

Sunday = Funday
We started off with a jeep ride to the lake, sans doors.

Then we watched the birthday girl open some Little Blue Boxes on the boat.

Our boat ride was a little short because of some uncooperative weather,
so we headed home, and we spur-of-the-moment stopped at this little Zoo.

I fed a Giraffe...

And the rest was sad, we won't be back.

But everyone had fun!

I'll leave you with this little gem:

Have a good day!!!

what do you like on top? (of your pizza!)

July is the BIRTHDAY MONTH!

Last night we headed over to my in-laws for a small
Happy Birthday Dinner & Cake. & Presents.

I was in charge of picking up an ice cream cake,
and I found this OREO one from my local food store,
If you're wondering-I thought it was so much better than a typical Carvel. Just good ol' cookies n cream ice-cream.
I don't really like all the artificial frosting on Carvel Ice Cream cakes.

My Father in Law turned the big 5-0!
I am SO SO lucky to be a part of this family,
he definitely is one of the funniest people that I know.
We typically eat dinner together every single sunday,
and he's always got us laughing...
Even things that aren't funny are funny.

Before it was cake time we had pizza loaded
with peppers and onion,
my new favorite topping!
(besides HOT SAUCE, but thats not really a topping is it?)

We were anticipating a HUGE storm yesterday,
It was sort of a bust, I mean it was thundering for an hour,
and rained for twenty minutes or so.
I guess it's time for me to get my car washed,
that almost always drums up some rain.

What do you like on your pizza?
Plain?
Ranch dressing?
I like my plain pizza loaded with hot sauce and parmesan cheese.
Ryan loves buffalo chicken pizza...

playing catch up.

hello stranger friends.
whats that you say?
where the F have I been? you say.
well, what happened was......
my internet,
and birthdays,
(not mine)
and runs,
YES, I said it,
I ACTUALLY have been running,
and moving
(not me)
and playing...

Whats that?
Back up?
Slow down?

Okay,
from the beginning.
Here we go.
TWENTY*SOMETHING* years ago,
a little girl was born.
She was called Gaylemarie.
She was a wild child,
crying so hard she would throw up,
then later piercing her tongue,
getting tattoos,
dying her hair pink,
yet remained an honors student,
collegiate field hockey player.
college graduate.
shes a maaaad scientist now.
and a runner.
and soon - to - be trainer/runningcoach/crossfit guru.
They don't come more generous than her.
Shes also not too bad looking:
She can be your friend too.
but not best friend/ maid of honor/ sister-in-law,
because than we have to fight.
Shes on twitter @GeMruns
and her social security number &
home address will be on the next post.
We celebrated her little day on Sunday,
with cake/boat/presents/
pizza/small guest appearance by RAIN&CLOUDS.
She got a little of THIS and a little of THAT

Other EXCITING FOR ME, BORING FOR YOU news includes,
guess who is showing the smallest/slightest READINESS
to potty train!
MY HUSBAND

3 number ones & counting.

Random GOOD hair day.
yes, thats what a GOOD hair day looks like for me.

And running.
{the hot. humid. sweaty. variety}

Then MANDATORY park trips.
{mandated by an 18 month old dictator}

But don't worry about me,
I regained control,
AND SHOWED HER WHO IS BOSS.

until next time!

(coming up, race talk)

FALL RACE SUGGESTIONS / WIGWAM SOCKS

Hey guys!
I've been all energizer bunny lately
(going and going and going)
today I really wanted to just hang,
and hang I did!
I ventured out this morning to the Crossings Premium Outlets near my house,
and picked up another fitted hat for my husband,
homeboy has got some serious hat game nowadays.

Then it was time for an iced Coffee from DD
but it wound up being a big ol' waste.
Too much cream, too- blehhh.

RUN TIME.
I wore THESE SOCKS for a sweaty 4 miler-
out and back from my house.

emphasis on sweaty

 Since I'm captain obvious,
and it's summertime,
I thought I would wait until 12:45p to start running today.
No early mornings / late nights here.
Just...me....HOT PAVEMENT...blazing sun....
oh and a screaming crying nap deprived toddler.
(which later forced me to turn my music on louder)

I THINK I'm going to sign up for an EARLY fall half marathon.
I'd like to do a real actual training program for it too.
I contacted/bribed/begged one of my friends / running buddy / pt to help motivate me too.
I mean, this could really happen!
you heard it here first,
HELL WILL FREEZE OVER THIS FALL.
maybe.

Any race suggestions?

Easy Chicken Parmesan Recipe

I have never been a red meat eater.
I have never been a seafood gal.
I did LOVE ME some chicken and turkey though.
Growing up my family was big on meat,
it was a tradition-
a way of life.
If you ask anyone of my family members,
they will tell you I was (and still am)
the pickiest eater ever.
It's not really until dating Ryan that I
ate out of my 'comfort zone'
Four years ago I was becoming more and more...sensitive? to meat.
After watching some documentaries and reading a few books on it, I made the decision to not eat meat anymore.
Anyway, I've been teetering back and forth with the idea of eating meat again, after a 4 year hiatus.
Last time I was together with my MiL and SiL,
I did it! I ate bacon!!!
(I read somewhere that bacon is the vegetarians kryptonite)
Since then, I have been incorporating meat into more and more meals...
Last night for instance,

CHICKEN PARMESAN

 beat 1 egg

 add a splash of milk

in a seperate bowl combine flour,
bread crumbs and black pepper

dip the chicken in egg mixture,
then coat evenly with bread crumbs.
FRY.

I add cheese sauce and then another layer of cheese
and broil the chicken for 10 minutes before serving over pasta.

Top with crazy amounts of grated cheese,
and ENJOY!
It's your first chicken parm for FOUR YEARS!

(I think I'm still in a food coma)
